Laudate Singers 2009 - 2010

Thank you, but we're not done yet...

Our thanks to Laudate Singers' audience and supporters for helping make our 2009-2010 season such a success. Our final concert for the season, Venetian Mosaic, turned out to be a fantastic concert and a visual feast!

While you wait for the 2010-2011 season to begin, why not join us during MusicFest Vancouver? Laudate is honored to be a featured choir along with five other premier Vancouver choirs in MusicFest Vancouver (formerly Festival Vancouver). Laudate will be participating in "Vancouver Sings" on August 13, 2010 at the Chan Centre. Included in the concert is a Japanese piece written by conductor Ko Matsushita. There will also be an appearance by the visiting Brillant Harmony Women's Choir from Tokyo.

Opera Delights
This will be our annual fundraising concert/silent auction/dinner which will be held at Seymour Golf & Country Club in North Vancouver. The theme of the party will be opera and we will perform popular solos and choruses for the entertainment section of the evening.

December 12, 2010 – 2pm at St Davids, 4pm at St Andrews
Free Family Concert
Our annual concert for young families is popular also for seniors and others who have difficulty getting out to our evening concerts or paying admission fees. Repertoire is a mixture of children’s Christmas favourites and artistically substantial choral music. The concert is participatory and interactive.

December 17 & 19, 2010
Luminous Voices & Harp
Our annual candlelit concert will feature Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols with guest harpist Heidi Krutzen. Will also include other Christmas pieces by Canadians Tyler Peterson, Ramona Leungen, with encore by Kristopher Fulton (all works previously commissioned by Laudate). It will be performed at two different venues in North Vancouver and West Vancouver.

March, 2011
Voices, Sax & Syn
Two saxophones and synthesizer join with choral voices for a truly unique sound experience. Some of the music will be repeated from the exciting concert we performed nine years ago. Nearly all of the music was especially commissioned. Four new commissions will be premiered including one by composer-in-residence Bruce Sled. All Canadian. One performance, at St Andrew’s, North Vancouver

May, 2011
Imagined Worlds
Collaborative concert with Vancouver Intercultural Orchestra featuring recently commissioned works by Moshe Denburg and Mark Armanini. One performance at Capilano Performing Arts Theatre. This concert will be recorded during the week following for commercial release.

Voice, word, harmony, rhythm, personality, meaning, emotion, texture, nostalgia, adventure--choral music has it all. When everything comes together just right, it's magic. And, according to our audiences, magic quite often happens at Laudate Singers' concerts. We hope you will be a part of it again in 2009-2010, our 15th season.

Christmas Classics is a holiday concert in true Laudate style, with a great mix of secular and sacred favourites, from ancient Gregorian chant to classic jazz and more. With A Gift of Song, we are proud to support one of our community's finiest organizations, SAGE Transition House. We'll finish the season with a spring visit to Renaissance Italy, in Venetian Mosaic.

We continue to celebrate both local and world choral traditions. You'll hear brand new work from our composer-in-residence Bruce Sled, as well as many other songs from Vancouver and elsewhere in North America. We continue to mine for the treasures of the European tradition and delve into South America's astounding abundance of choral repertoire. In October, members of Laudate Singers and Sinfonia Orchestra will fly to Japan to represent North Vancouver at the Chiba Cultural Festival. Music will transcend geographic and cultural boundaries as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of our cities' sisterhood with music from both Japan and Canada.

As you can see, our 2009-2010 season promises to be a glorious and magical adventure. We invite you to experience it with us!
