Hilary CrowtherI studied piano as a child and played a number of instruments in my high school band, so when I moved on to Capilano College in 1991 I couldn't face the idea that my education would no longer include any music and joined the Capilano College Festival Chorus. This proved to be so much fun that a few years later I began to study voice privately as well as sing in the choir. Singing in Laudate has given me a chance to take my love of choral singing to a whole new level. When not singing, I work in publishing, which conveniently provides me with more books than even I can read! My other hobbies include photography and cooking elaborate gourmet meals for family and friends. I'll also happily take all of your money in a friendly round of Texas Hold 'Em!
Mark DesilvaI started playing the violin and singing while growing up in Malaysia and England. My other childhood passion was science, which eventually led me into a biomedical research career in the US. After a few vacation trips visiting family, I fell in love with Vancouver and decided to move to BC. Since joining Laudate in September 1998, I've had many absolutely superb experiences through making music in the Greater Vancouver region.
Stacey EricksonAlthough my life is a mixture of many different things, one constant has been music. I have always loved music, whether playing on the trombone as a kid or singing madrigals. Singing is my way to relax after a hard day at work or school. Since sound equipment also interests me, I find myself behind the scenes editing or producing projects for friends. This makes me appreciate the inner workings of the concerts we all enjoy, whether as a performer or as an audience member.
Katie HorstI am thrilled to be back in Laudate Singers after a 2 year break from the choir. I have been singing and playing the piano since I was very young, and have been teaching piano for the last 13 years.
For the last 3 years, I have also been teaching voice, (katiesmusicstudio.com), upon the completion of my Bachelor of Music degree. I hope you enjoy the program Laudate has put together for you this season!
Paul JungwirthI’ve always loved music and studied it when I was quite young, but only got back into it a few years ago through involvement in my church choir. As I progressed I began singing in other choirs, including a few seasons with the Festival Chorus and Cap Singers at Capilano University, which lead me to Laudate. This is definitely the finest group of singers I’ve been privileged to sing with, and I'm always interested to see what we’ll tackle next.
The love of singing and choral music.…memories: a boy soprano in Nelson Boys Choir; challenging hours of practice and performance while at UBC; singing monsters, like Messiah and B minor, as member of Vancouver Cantata Singers; finding a choral home with Laudate. Once a geologist exploring the wilds of British Columbia, now an IT pro in somewhat tamer corporate corridors — work can be fun, demanding and rewarding. North Vancouver and its many gifts, home, but wife Cathleen and I also love to leave to wander, perhaps along the coast, maybe the mountains, and often across to BC's interior plateaus.
